Sir
"
I am etc. to request you to
inform the Board of Trade that in
connection with the exhibit organized
by the Govt. of Hong Kong at the
British Empire Exhibition, a difficulty
has arisen in regard to silver-work.
It is desired that a part of the Hong
kong exhibit shall consist of native
artisans engaged in the manufacture of
Chinese
small articles of) silver as is done in
Hong Kong, and it appears that such
articles cannot be sold as silver in
this country unless hall-marked, while
the silver commonly used in Hong Kong
is not of sufficient fineness (900 as
against 925 which is the standard in
make
this country) to enable it to be atamped
2.
Mr. Thomas will be glad to
learn whether there will be any
objection to the sale of such articlesé
